Women Empowerment Desk, This two-day workshop happened on October 16th and 17th, 2023. Its main purpose was to help SGBV committee members gain the knowledge and skills needed to stop, deal with, and fight against sexual and gender-based violence in the settlement.
According to the rules set by the Central Tibetan Administration, it is important to create SGBV committees in settlements, schools, and workplaces. These committees are very important in protecting the Tibetan community from issues of sexual and gender-based violence. During the workshop, the participants learned a lot about how to prevent, stop, and solve incidents of SGBV. This is important for making sure that everyone in the community stays safe.
One important part of the training was when the staff from the Tibetan Women Helpline (TWH) held orientation sessions. These sessions gave the committee members important information about the services provided by TWH. This information will help them better support survivors and deal with issues of sexual and gender-based violence.
This initiative is a part of a program called Tibetan Settlement Resilience and Recovery (TSRR), which is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This program is helping WED and its partners improve the ability of the SGBV committee and create a safer and stronger community in the Dharamshala Tibetan Settlement.
