Sidney Powell, a well-known lawyer who used to work for Donald Trump, has admitted to being guilty in a major development that happened just a day before her expected trial in Georgia’s election tampering case.

This important confession connects her to the January 2021 hacking of election systems in rural Coffee County, Georgia. Working together with local GOP officials, Powell and a group of Trump supporters obtained and made copies of data from the county’s election systems in order to prove that there were problems with the election.

Because she admitted her guilt, the prosecutors in Fulton County have suggested that she should be put on probation for six years. Powell must testify at upcoming trials, write a letter saying sorry to the people of Georgia, pay almost $9,000 for damages and penalties, and give up important papers.

It is worth noting that ex-President Donald Trump, who is also being accused in the Fulton County case, is noticeably not mentioned in Powell’s plea documents and was not talked about during the short plea hearing on Thursday.

After the 2020 election, Sidney Powell started to believe and share conspiracy theories. She claimed that there was a lot of fraud and made unsupported statements about millions of votes being changed. She thought there was a big plan against Trump involving other countries like Venezuela.

Powell is the second person in a big criminal case to admit guilt. The first person was Scott Hall, a bail bondsman, who did this last month and has agreed to give evidence in future trials. But the other 17 people accused, including former President Trump, have decided to continue saying they are not guilty.

In her confession, Powell admits that she intentionally messed with electronic voting machines after the 2020 election.

Moreover, Powell admits to hiring a company that investigates data and sending their workers to Coffee County. There, they illegally got into government computers to look at personal voter information. They did all of this even though they knew they didn’t have permission to do it.

Before she made her plea, Powell’s lawyers strongly denied the prosecution’s claims that she organized the Coffee County breach. They said that the evidence would show she is innocent and that she did not play a major role in the incident.
