Subrata Roy, the revered founder of Sahara Group India, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 75, due to cardiorespiratory arrest, the business group confirmed in an official statement. His health condition worsened, leading to his hospitalization at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Mumbai on Sunday. ( also read Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi ).
Sahara Group revealed that Subrata Roy’s death was the result of a long battle with complications related to metastatic melanoma, hypertension and diabetes.
Describing him as an “inspirational and visionary leader”, the company released a statement expressing deep sadness at the demise of ‘Saharasri’ Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Director and President of Sahara India Pariwar. The statement highlighted his significant contributions and leadership in various fields. Prominent personalities including badminton player PV Sindhu and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav paid tribute. PV Sindhu fondly remembered Subrata Roy, noting her love, affection and respect during his visits to Lucknow. Akhilesh Yadav recognized Subrata Roy as not only a successful businessman but also a compassionate person with a generous heart who helped countless lives.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences, terming Subrata Roy’s death as a great loss to the state and the nation. He prayed for the soul of the deceased and strength for the grieving family. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak acknowledged Subrata Roy’s important role in the development of various sectors of the state, expressing sadness over her demise.
