The CEO of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker, has decided to leave his position after working there for 27 years.

Akbar Al Baker, who has been the CEO of Qatar Airways for a long time, said that he will leave his position after a remarkable 27 years on October 23. The Qatari government, who are in charge of running the airline, have chosen Badr Mohammed Al-Meer to take over after the current manager. Baker will remain as CEO until November 5, 2023, as mentioned in a statement.
In a letter to the airline’s workers, Baker talked about his time working there. He said, “After 27 years of working, I want to let you all know that I will be leaving my position at Qatar Airways Group. In 1996, we started with only five planes and a committed and enthusiastic team. We wanted to become excellent in the aviation industry. Since then, our leader helped us grow and we now have 248 modern and fuel-efficient planes. We also fly to more than 160 places all around the world.
Baker became the CEO of Qatar Airways in 1996. He led the company to grow steadily, even though there were obstacles like the air blockade in 2018 and the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry worldwide.
Before becoming the CEO of Qatar Airways, Baker had important roles in the government, such as being the chairman of the Qatar Tourism Authority. Moreover, he is linked to India because he studied at for his early education. Peter’s School in Mumbai and got a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree from a school in the same city.
