India celebrates National Education Day on November 11 every year to honor Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who was the first education minister of independent India. Azad served in this role from August 15, 1947, to February 2, 1958, and he had a big impact on the education system of the country until he passed away on February 22, 1958.
Abul Kalam Azad was born on November 18, 1888. He fought for India’s freedom and was also a respected teacher, scholar, and leader of the Indian National Congress. Maulana Azad was an important leader of India after it became independent. He helped to create important schools and colleges like AICTE, UGC, and the first IIT in Kharagpur. He helped to make organizations like the ICCR, Sahitya Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, Sangeet Natak Academy, and CSIR.
National Education Day is celebrated to honor Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s important role in the education field. After independence, Azad focused on helping rural and poor communities by promoting education for girls, teaching adults to read, and making sure all children up to 14 could go to school for free. He wanted to make sure everyone could go to school, have different options for high school, and be trained for a job.
