Narendra Modi Expected to Take Oath for Third Term as Prime Minister on June 8: Report

Election Result 2024: Narendra Modi Expected to Be Sworn in as India's Prime Minister for a Third Term on June 8.

Election Results 2024: Media reports indicate Narendra Modi will be sworn in as India’s Prime Minister for a third term on June 8.

In Short

The BJP, with significant support from its allies, is set to form the government despite not securing a majority on its own.

The expected swearing-in of Narendra Modi for a third term highlights the continued trust in his leadership, while the notable rise of Congress points to a more competitive political landscape.

The NDA’s upcoming meeting aims to chart the future course for governance and political strategy.

Narendra Modi Likely to Take Oath Alongside New Cabinet

Narendra Modi is expected to be sworn in as India’s Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 8, according to media reports. Along with Modi, the new cabinet is also anticipated to take their oaths on the same day. This development follows the Union cabinet’s recommendation, chaired by PM Modi on June 5, to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha, whose term concludes on June 16, a day after the Lok Sabha election results were announced.

Support from Key Allies: TDP and JDU

Reports from ANI suggest that both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal-United (JDU) have indicated their support for the formation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. These parties, seen as potential “kingmakers,” are expected to provide formal letters of support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during an upcoming alliance meeting. Their backing is pivotal, as it solidifies the NDA’s ability to form the government and supports the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for June 8.

Election Results Overview

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured 240 seats. While this figure fell short of the majority mark of 272 seats, the support from allied parties within the NDA brought their collective total to 295 seats, allowing them to surpass the majority threshold. The opposition INDIA bloc, in comparison, secured 231 seats, presenting a formidable challenge to the BJP-led NDA, contrary to earlier exit poll predictions.

This election marked a noticeable decline in the BJP’s seat count from previous years, where they had won 303 seats in 2019 and 282 seats in 2014. Conversely, the Congress party demonstrated significant growth, winning 99 seats, a substantial increase from the 52 seats in 2019 and 44 seats in 2014.

Strategic NDA Meeting

In light of the election results, the NDA is set to convene a meeting to strategize future political actions. This meeting, scheduled to take place at Prime Minister Modi’s residence at 3:30 pm, will involve discussions among NDA leaders to outline the next steps for the alliance.

PM Modi’s Acknowledgment and Vision

On June 4, following the election results, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the Indian populace for their mandate. He emphasized that the BJP-led NDA will form its third successive government, attributing this victory to the commitment to a developed India, inclusive growth (‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’), and the people’s strong faith in the Indian Constitution.

“In this sacred moment, it is confirmed that the NDA will form the government for the third time. We are deeply grateful to the people for their unwavering faith in the BJP and the NDA. This victory represents the triumph of the world’s largest democracy, the steadfast belief in India’s Constitution, and the resolve for a Viksit Bharat. It is the victory of ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’,” Modi declared in his address at the BJP headquarters.

Conclusion

The anticipated swearing-in of Narendra Modi for a third term as Prime Minister, along with his new cabinet, signifies the continued trust placed in the BJP-led NDA by the Indian electorate. As the NDA prepares to consolidate its position and plan future political strategies, the support from key allies like the TDP and JDU will be crucial in shaping the next phase of governance in India.
