Contestant Erica Robin from Karachi is currently facing a lot of criticism before Pakistan’s first participation in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. She was picked as Miss Universe Pakistan out of five finalists in the first-ever competition held in the Maldives. This event is very important for Pakistan because for the first time in 72 years, the country has chosen someone to represent them in the Miss Universe beauty pageant.
Many people have reacted to Erica’s statement about wanting to change how Pakistan is seen as a backward country, some in favor of it and some against it. Some people on Twitter think Mariana Babar is both beautiful and smart. But Senator Mushtaq Ahmed doesn’t like the decision and called it shameful. The Prime Minister ordered the intelligence agency to investigate the organizers of the Miss Universe Pakistan pageant because some people online criticized the competition and said Erica shouldn’t represent the country.
Kakar said the staging of the Maldives pageant was disgraceful and disrespectful to women in Pakistan. Islamic scholar Taqi Usmani was worried about five young Pakistani women taking part in an international beauty pageant and wanted it to be reconsidered. A Pakistani commentator named Ansar Abbasi asked why five Pakistani girls were allowed to participate in the Miss Universe beauty contest. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, explained that only official government institutions are responsible for representing the country, and non-governmental individuals or groups cannot do so.
