In an exciting match in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24, Kerala Blasters FC won 2-1 against East Bengal FC at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium.
Adrian Luna showed off his amazing abilities, always challenging the East Bengal FC defense and making chances seemingly out of nowhere. In the 32nd minute, Luna took advantage of the confusion in the other team’s defense. He smartly helped his teammate Daisuke Sakai by making a very accurate pass.
Luna quickly moved around the box, tricking Mohamad Rakip with quick footwork and shot the ball past Prabhsukhan Singh Gill to make his team ahead. During this time, Sakai became the fourth Japanese player in ISL history to score a goal. Some other Japanese players who have achieved this feat are Cy Goddard, Katsumi Yusa, and Rei Tachikawa.
Luna did a great job at attacking in Kerala, and Sachin Suresh impressed people with his performance as the young goalkeeper. He did really well at passing the ball, completing 57 out of every 100 passes in the six games he played. But it was his ability to make incredible saves that really caught everyone’s attention. During the game, he stopped a penalty shot for the second time in a row. This prevented the Brazilian striker Cleiton Silva from scoring a goal that would have tied the match in the 85th minute. Sachin accomplished something special by being the first goalkeeper in ISL history to save penalties in two consecutive matches.
After all this sudden change of events, East Bengal FC seemed a little bit unsettled for a moment. Kerala Blasters took advantage of this opportunity, as Sandeep Singh easily passed the ball to Dimitrios Diamantakos, who scored a goal in the 88th minute without facing much resistance. But, the Greek forward got another yellow card and was then sent off in the 89th minute. East Bengal FC had an extra player and got a penalty in the ninth minute of extra time. Silva was able to convert the penalty successfully. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough time to catch up and get an equalizer.
Both teams will be playing two games in a row in the league on November 25th. East Bengal FC will play against Chennaiyin FC in Chennai, and Kerala Blasters FC will host Hyderabad FC.
