Sharmila Tagore received the highest award from Jamia Millia Islamia on their 103rd anniversary.

On the 103rd anniversary of its establishment, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University awarded its highest honor, the Imtiaz-e-Jamia award, to the well-respected actress Sharmila Tagore. The big party happened on Sunday, October 29, on the university’s large campus. The Imtiaz-e-Jamia award is given to Indian people who have made important contributions to society. It’s important to mention that Sharmila Tagore has received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award before for her exceptional work in Hindi films.
At the event, JMI’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar also spoke. Najma Akhtar and the special guest, Dr. SK Sarin is the person who started and leads the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi. Ms Sharmila Tagore and her family received a special greeting from NCC cadets. This was mentioned by the university in a tweet on October 30th. During the event, the Vice-Chancellor and other important guests raised up the Jamia Flag. They also opened the newly built Centenary Gate, according to the university.
Sharmila Tagore has been connected to the university since 2017 when she visited Jamia to start the first film club at the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, according to The New Indian Express.
