Google Doodle celebrates Dr. Victor Chang, a Chinese Australian surgeon best known for his important work in heart and organ transplantation surgery.

Victor Chang was a famous Chinese Australian surgeon who made important advances in heart and transplant surgery. Dr was born on November 21, 1936. Chang became interested in medicine because his mom had breast cancer when he was young.
Dr obtained a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Sydney. Chang started his training as a doctor at St. Vincent worked at a hospital and learned a lot from working in hospitals all over the world. In 1972, he went back to Australia and started working as a heart and chest surgeon at a hospital in Sydney called St. Vincent’s medical center.

In 1984, he did an important thing by giving a new heart to 14-year-old Fiona Coote. She was the youngest Australian to get a new heart at that time. Coote, who has lived the longest after a heart transplant in Australia, got a second heart transplant two years later.
Dr acknowledged for his important ideas and new ways of doing things. Chang got many awards, like a nomination for Australian of the Century at the People’s Choice Awards in 1999 and Australia’s top honor, the ‘Companion of the Order of Australia,’ in 1986. He started the Victor Chang Foundation in 1984 because he really cared about making healthcare better all around the world. The foundation helps Southeast Asian surgeons learn advanced heart surgery and heart transplants.
In 1994, the Victor Chang Research Institute was started to continue Dr. Victor Chang’s work in medical research. Chang’s legacy is all about finding a way to prevent and cure heart diseases, and also creating tools to help diagnose them. Doctor Chang is still dedicated to teaching and sharing what he knows to help the medical community and improve heart surgery.
