A very sad event happened on a Sunday morning in Kalamassery near Kochi. There was a meeting of Jehovah Witness followers at a convention center. There were many explosions at the place. One person died and over 30 people got hurt, with five of them in serious condition. The people who were hurt were quickly taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery and other hospitals nearby for medical care.
The exact reason for the explosions is not known for sure, but the police think it might have been caused by a bomb going off. People who were there said that around 9:45 am, right after a prayer at a meeting, there were three big bangs inside the convention hall.
After the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said it was sad and emphasized how serious the situation is. He said that the important police officers from Kerala, like the Director General of Police, were on their way to the place where the explosion happened. The area has been blocked off, and the police and fire rescue teams have been called to deal with the urgent situation. Some of the people who got hurt have serious burns, but they are getting medical help at Kalamassery Medical College. There are more hospitals to go to if needed.
Right now, we do not have any details about the explosion or who may be responsible for it. Kerala Health Minister Veena George told government healthcare workers to come to work because of what happened.
The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, has talked with the Chief Minister of Kerala and is keeping a close watch on the situation. He told the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to send teams to Kerala to help the state government with this sad event.
