On Friday, OpenAI decided to fire its co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman, after finding out that he wasn’t always honest with the board of directors. Some important people supported Altman, but BharatPe’s ex-cofounder and managing director, Asneer Grover, said that Altman’s situation is similar to his own experience in India. Grover, who was kicked out of BharatPe because of accusations of financial cheating, posted on Twitter about dealing with the same problems and blamed startup boards and investors for being arrogant instead of smart.
In a tweet that has been removed, Grover mistakenly posted a picture of Sam Altman, and people made fun of it online. People made fun of him because he wasn’t accurate. One person even said, “that’s not even a picture of Sam Altman… this whole post is embarrassing. “ Even though Grover tried to compare himself to other founders who were removed from their companies, like Travis Kalanick, Adam Neumann, and Steve Jobs, people criticized him for being too focused on himself and not coming up with new ideas for his own business.
Mira Murati from OpenAI is now the temporary CEO, and they are looking for a new CEO. As for Greg Brockman, the head of the board, he said he’s leaving OpenAI because of what happened today. He also said he and Sam Altman were surprised and upset about the news. They found out Altman was fired during a video call on Google Meet. The changes in leadership in the tech industry can cause a lot of uncertainty and different reactions from the people involved.
