The Delhi NCR region saw a slight reduction in increased air pollution thanks to light rains that occurred after midnight and early morning on November 10. Air Quality, Forecasting and Research System (SAFAR) reported an air quality index (AQI) of 407 at 6 a. m, an improvement from the previous day.

Despite this positive development, the Central Pollution Control Board’s AQI map still shows clusters of red dots, indicating hazardous air quality, prevalent in the Indo-Gangetic plains.

Real-time CPCB data revealed that Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, which held the title of most polluted city the previous day, recorded an AQI of 418, closely followed by Bhiwadi in Rajasthan with an AQI of 343.
Cities with high pollution levels yesterday included Delhi (AQI today 423), Faridabad (415), Sonipat (429), Murthal (429), Fatehabad (371), Jind (429), Kaithal (417 ), Manesar (318), Purnia in Bihar (388) and Noida (383). Persistent haze in the capital, prevalent since October 27 due to stubble burning incident in Punjab, has led to poor air quality in many places with AQI crossing ‘400’ on a 500-point scale.

Unfavorable weather conditions, characterized by low wind speeds and falling temperatures, have made the problem of air pollution worse. Recent downpours in many places are expected to reduce particulate matter in the air, especially PM 2. 5 and PM 10, helping to improve air quality.

Images from India Gate’s Kartavya Gate and Delhi-Noida border recorded light to moderate showers. In a bid to tackle the pollution crisis, the Delhi government has planned ‘artificial rain‘ on November 9, in which ministers actively inspected various areas and borders connecting Delhi with the neighboring states to ensure implementation of anti-pollution measures. Currently, Phase IV of the Gradual Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented in the national capital to deal with the worsening air quality, reaching the ‘severe plus‘ level.
