Intrusion into Lok Sabha on 22nd Anniversary of Parliament Terror Attack
On the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack, there was a big security problem and a lot of confusion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday afternoon. The Parliament terror attack in 2001 was done by two banned terrorists groups from Pakistan and it resulted in the death of nine people, including eight security staff.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla honored and remembered the victims of the 2001 attack. The security breach happened after a terrorist named Gurpatwant Singh Pannun threatened to attack on this day. This made the Delhi Police be extra careful.
The incident happened at 1:02 pm when a man jumped from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber, with another person staying in the gallery. Both intruders used canisters that let out yellow smoke. A video went around the internet showing a person trying to escape from being caught by jumping over desks, but they were eventually trapped by MPs. Politicians are worried about the breach and are saying that the smoke released could be very harmful.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla promised to look into the security breach very carefully. A pass for a visitor was found with the intruders and it showed that it was given by the office of BJP MP Pratap Simha from Mysuru. Visitors have to do many security checks before they can go into Parliament.
At the same time, a man and a woman were stopped outside of Parliament for having smoke canisters that exploded and made red and yellow smoke. Sources from the Delhi Police say there may be a link between the two events. The people who were arrested are named Amol Shinde, 25, and Neelam, 42. The new problems have made people worried, so they want a thorough investigation into the security mistake.
Excellent write-up
